Choose a base sound
Rain, river, ocean and wind can form the base of a mix. Start with one so you can hear how it feels. Fire, birds, insects or wind chimes can add detail. Café and library ambience offer a different setting when you want the impression of a shared space.
Balance layers instead of turning everything up
Raise a sound slowly until it sits comfortably in the mix. Several loud layers can compete with one another; reducing a volume often helps more than adding another sound. Use the master control to adjust the whole mix after setting the individual levels.
Combine music and ambience
Choose one music track from styles such as lo-fi, piano, guitar or jazz, then add ambient layers underneath. For reading, try the ambience alone and compare it with a quiet instrumental track. There is no single sound combination that works for everyone.
Let the mix loop, and save it
NookCraft loops its audio so you can leave the mix running. Save a named nook to keep your selection and volumes in this browser. Audio can be interrupted by a device or browser going to sleep, so keep the app available during a session.
Use a lighter setup on mobile
Start only the sounds you need, and consider a still background when using mobile data. Audio does not start automatically on entry. If a browser blocks playback, press Play; you remain in control of when the soundtrack begins.
